Central provinces strengthen support to stabilise local life post-disaster

VTV.vn - More supports have been provided to disaster-hit locals in central provinces to help them resume production and stabilise their lives after continuous storms and flooding.

Quang Binh Provincial People's Committee has instructed the local agricultural sector to coordinate with other agencies to urgently formulate plans to build resettlement sites for households suffering from serious landslides in the districts of Minh Hoa, Tuyen Hoa and Quang Ninh. In the short term, the districts’ authorities will ensure temporary accommodation and necessities for affected local people.

On November 23, a National Assembly deputies’ delegation from Quang Ngai province received VND7.2 billion donated by the relevant organisations, businesses and donors to support local people in the province overcoming the consequences of the recent natural disasters.

On the same day, the Vietnam Students’ Association awarded 40 scholarships to local students in Quang Ngai, along with 100 water purifiers, 1,500 notebooks and VND30 million in cash to assist in the repair of a local school.

Also on November 23, the Ministry of Education and Training provided VND12.92 billion to Hue University to help the facility’s units overcome damage caused by the recent floods and storms.

On November 22 and 23, a delegation from Da Nang City visited and distributed medicine for free to local people in Tra Van commune, Nam Tra My district, Quang Nam province. The delegation also gave gifts to locals and students, as well as presenting a generator to the commune’s health station.

The US Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Action for the Community Development Centre (ACDC) on November 23 also coordinated to provide relief aid for people with disabilities who have been affected by floods in the central province of Thua Thien Hue. The gifts, including daily necessities and food, were handed over to 160 families of disabled people in Phu Vang district – one of the localities hardest hit by the recent floods. They also awarded 120 sets of textbooks and 120 sets of tables and chairs to Quang Tho Primary School (Quang Dien district) and Phong Chuong 1 Primary School (Phong Dien district).

A delegation from the Ministry of Health visited and presented gifts to locals in floodplain communes of Quang Binh province and patients being treated at the Dong Hoi Vietnam - Cuba Friendship Hospital. They also visited doctors who are examining and supplying drugs to people in flood-hit areas in Le Thuy and Quang Ninh districts, as well as giving gifts to two disadvantaged households in the area, each household receiving VND5 million to repair their houses.

The People's Committee of Ba Don town in Quang Binh has decided to provide 1,400 kg of maize and vegetables varieties to local farmers to help them resume agricultural production post-disaster.

On November 23, the Ministry of Education and Training sent a document to local authorities across the nation, urging them to focus on strengthening the work of ensuring food hygiene and safety in educational institutions and preventing epidemics from breaking out post-disaster.
