In this year’s rainy season, over 6,000 hectares of additional pepper plants have been planted all over Central Highlands’ provinces. Dak Nong recorded the largest peppercultivation area with nearly 2,500 hectares.
High price of pepper means high profits for farmers so they have been keen to replace cacao and coffee trees with pepper plants. As demand for pepper rises, material costs to plant pepper have also increased. Initial investment costs for a hectare have reached at least 500 million VND, some 23 thousand USD.
