Search forces picked up signals from the CASA 212's black box, and it is currently being salvaged. Along with aircraft debris, the black box is important to finding the cause of the accident.
"The initial cause of the Su30MK2 was an incident in the cockpit, and the pilot escaped by parachute. The rest remains to be further evaluated. The cause of the CASA crash is still unknown, as its black box is being salvaged. The weather at the time of the accident was unusual. The rescue aircraft was flying at a low altitude, and this could be a cause of the accident", said Vo Van Tuan - Deputy Chief of General Staff of People’s Army of Vietnam.
The Airbus group, Spain, the manufacturer of the CASA aircraft's black box, will join the Ministry of Defense and the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam to determine the cause of the crash.
"Black boxes that have been soaked in water or damaged need to be restored. This is special equipment and requires high technology to decrypt the pattern of the accident. Currently, we are not able to do that. So international cooperation is very important in this matter", said Lai Xuan Thanh - Head of Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam.
9 flight crew members of the CASA-212 crashed into the sea while searching for the SU 30 MK2 missing aircraft. The Defense Ministry believes all officials and soldiers on the CASA-212 plane have died.
