The province will provide 21 billion VND or 1 million USD to offshore fishing vessles, including 100,000 dollars for accident insurance for the nearly 7,400 fishing crew, 900,000 dollars to support the buying of new equipment and fishing gear for 816 boats.
Binh Dinh’s fishing fleet now numbers 7,000 vessels. Of these, over 2,700 are offshore fishing boats employing more than 30,000 fishermen. Binh Dinh Province alone accounts for 20% of the country’s offshore fishing vessels and 50% of Binh Dinh’s vessels mainly focus their trawling on the traditional fishing grounds of the Paracel and Spratly Islands and around oil rig DK1.
