The meeting discussed and issued a joint statement on boosting solidarity and unity in the region, contributing to building the ASEAN Community and resolving problems in the region. The 49th ASEAN foreign ministers’ meeting aimed at spreading the message of solidarity and unity. The common declaration of the meeting mentioned the most practical issues in building of the ASEAN Community and developing good relationship with its partners and especially ASEAN’s common stand on the East Sea issue.
"ASEAN hold a consistent stand on the East Sea issues, with which all parties should respect the international law, the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea as well as Declaration on Conduct of the Parties in the East Sea", said Le Luong Minh - ASEAN Secretary General.
With the title Turning Vision into Reality for a Dynamic ASEAN Community, the meeting emphasised ASEAN’s top priorities as well as the strengthening the solidarity and unity among the member countries. This would be a prerequisite for the success of building the ASEAN Community as well as maintaining the region’s peace, security and stability.
