8 Mekong Delta provinces announce salinity intrusion emergency

VTV.vn - The Mekong Delta province of Tra Vinh has recently declared a natural disaster situation at level-1 risk in the locality because of serious salinity intrusion.

Thus, 8 provinces in the Mekong Delta region have announced this situation, including Ben Tre, Kien Giang, Long An, Tiền Giang, Sóc Trăng, Cà Mau, Vĩnh Long and Trà Vinh. So far, over 11,000 hectares of winter-spring rice crops have been damaged, affecting more than 13,000 farmers. According to the Southern Institute of Water Resources and Tra Vinh's Meteorological station, it is likely that by the end of April, there will be no fresh water in Tra Vinh’s dyke system.
