VTV.vn - About 65 percent of the rural population in Vietnam is anticipated to get access to clean water of certified standards with a minimum quantity of 60 litres per person per day by 2030.

The information was announced at the National strategy for rural water supply and sanitation by 2030, with a vision towards 2045, which was recently signed by Deputy Prime Minister Le Văn Thanh.

The strategy aims to ensure that rural people have the right to access and use clean water supply services in a fair, convenient and safe manner as well as at a reasonable cost, contributing to narrowing the gap between rural and urban areas.

Under the strategy, 100% of rural households, schools and health stations are expected to have hygienic latrines, 25 percent of concentrated rural residential areas have domestic wastewater collection systems, and 75 percent of livestock households and farms have livestock waste treated by 2030.

Vietnam also set a target that 100 percent of people in rural areas will have access to clean water by 2045 while 100 percent of livestock households and farms have livestock waste treated.

To achieve the above objectives, the strategy outlines specific solutions regarding three aspects, including perfecting institutions and policies, promoting information and communication and supplying clean water for rural areas.
