VTV.vn - A conference to review a programme to honour Ho Chi Minh abroad took place on Thursday in Hanoi. The event was co-organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

The programme began in 2009 and so far, 20 statues and monuments have been built to remember Late President Ho Chi Minh in more than a dozen countries. In addition, conferences and events to honour the president have also taken place every year across the globe with support from local authorities.

"The outcome of the project exceeded our expectation. Our first target was preserving evidence of Uncle Ho’s time overseas. The second was to promote Vietnam’s image via the president. Thirdly, we strengthened relations with other countries through the fame associated with Ho Chi Minh. We now have sites in nine countries honouring the late president", Pham Sanh Chau, Director of Department of External Culture and UNESCO, said.

As the programme will run for a long time, experts at the event stressed the importance of recognising challenges in the future.

At the event, Vietnam representative offices abroad also gave artefacts related to the late president that were collected overseas to Ho Chi Minh Museum in Hanoi.
