This is an important change helping Vietnamese rice exporters and farmers increase awareness from sowing through to milling and processing.
As supplements to the protocol signed on 2004, the document of the revised protocol requires that rice sterilization will be under the watch of the Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development’s Plant Protection Department instead of the China Inspection company. The revised protocol is intended to help ensure the quality of Vietnamese rice exported to China and prevent plants from spreading harmful organisms
Nguyen Tri The, Khang Hung Co. Ltd, Hau Giang Province said: “The protocol will help to eliminate Vietnamese rice exporters not meeting the export requirements”.
The protocol is intended to prevent unofficial Vietnamese rice exports to China and help boost transparency and quality.
Huynh Van Thon, Vietnam Food Association said: “The transparent regulations on rice exports will create a fair and competitive environment for Vietnamese rice exporters. This is a positive improvement for Vietnam rice exports”.
131 firms currently export rice officially to China, 30-40 of them are regular suppliers. According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, there are 9 rice sterilisation units in Vietnam allowed to implement the rice inspection and this process should facilitate Vietnamese rice exports.
