The regulation on rice export to China through official channels is one of the most important terms of the protocol on plant quarantine for Vietnamese rice sold to China. Businesses need to meet the requirements of both Vietnam and China and are licensed by the agricultural agencies of the two countries.
The protocol not only reduces small scale rice exports but also resolves the quality control difficulties. According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, there will be 9 companies in Vietnam that carry out the assessment. It is expected to set out good conditions for Vietnam’s rice export businesses.
China is currently Vietnam’s largest rice importer with over 30 percent of market share. The signing of the protocol is expected to open more opportunities for Vietnam’s rice in China’s market.
