What foreign visitors can bring into Vietnam free of duty and taxes

Foreign visitors will be allowed to bring into Vietnam VND10 million (US$450) worth of goods in their entry luggage without having to pay any duty or taxes, new regulations say.

The rules, set to take effect on October, will allow Vietnamese citizens, overseas Vietnamese and foreigners to also carry with them up to three liters of alcoholic drink and 200 cigarettes or 100 cigars.

For stronger wine and spirits, the limit is set at 1.5 liters for products with more than 22 percent alcohol.

At the moment, visitors can only bring in entry luggage worth VND5 million free of duty and taxes.
