Vietnamese diver recalls tourist boat rescue

However, there is a story about one of the men involved in the rescue of the survivors. When walking along Han River with his friends on June 4^th, Nguyễn Hoàng Quốc noticed the incident. He then immediately tried to save the victims.

Nguyen Hoang Quoc, Nai Hien Dong Commune, Da Nang said: « I was walking along Han River with my friends when I witnessed the boat capsizing. As soon as I saw a small boat onshore, I took the boat and I saved 3 people”.  

However the boat was too small and the oar broke, so felt helpless.

Nguyen Hoang Quoc, Nai Hien Dong Commune, Da Nang said: “If only the oar hadn’t broken, I might have been able to save more people. I wasn’t scared at all, I just tried to save as many people as I could”.

20 hours after the accident, local authorities had found 3 missing victims with the help of 70 professional divers.

Nguyen Tu, President of Diving Association, Nai Hien Dong Commune, Da Nang said : « About 6 or 7 boats with many divers have been mobilised to find victims. We’ll try our best to help the authorities whenever indeed”.

It would take a long time for the victims to forget the tragic accident, but they will always remember those who offered their hands to save their lives.
