The first activities of Action month start today at Hoang Lien National Park in Lao Cai province. Our reporter Hai Nam has more in the following.
These delegates from different ministries, government agencies and people’s committees from many provinces all over Vietnam are travelling into the depths of Hoang Lien National Park. They are here to release animals back into the wild, as part of Action Month for the Environment 2016.
82 animals from 11 species, which were victims of poaching and illegal trading, were rescued and released back into their habitat today. Security in the area will be tightened to ensure their safe rehabilitation.
In addition, delegates also planted trees. In previous years, world environment day was celebrated with official meetings. But this year, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment will begin to focus on practical actions to help protect the environment and raise awareness.
"All of our media campaigns and activities to raise awareness about the environment have to become more effective, and avoid being just for show. The efficiency that I’m talking about means directing these activities towards the community. They will have to be practical, and bring about real benefits for our society. Second, we also need to encourage the community’s participation in these campaigns and raise their awareness about the environment", Nguyen Viet Dung - Director of Centre for Environment Training and Communication, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment - said.
Activities like these will be organised nationwide, starting from provinces and cities in Northern Vietnam. These actions help emphasise that, when it comes to protecting the environment, words are not enough. It’s time for everyone to take action.
