The US$2.2 billion plant, invested in by Vinacomin will include two turbines producing 1,200 megawatts. The thermal plant is scheduled to begin operation in 2020 and will generate about 6.6 billion kiloWatt per hour of electricity, helping ensure national energy security and provide a foundation for economic development in the northern central region. The Quỳnh Lập One power plant was approved by the government and is part of the national electricity master plan for the 2011-2010 period.
