VTV.vn - International co-operation is an effective solution in helping Vietnam to protect the environment.

It can also help in tightening up Vietnam’s legal system, improving management skills and applying technology that can help protect the environment. The World Bank has been a long-term partner of Vietnam in the fight against climate change for the past two decades. The bank has helped Vietnam to draft policy, improve infrastructure and limit salt water intrusion in the Mekong Delta.

Laura Altinger, Senior Adviser on Climate Change, World Bank in Vietnam, said: "International co-operation has continually expanded over the years, from assessing environmental impacts to controlling pollution and preserving biodiversity. Co-operation has also switched with Vietnam from receiving aid to partnership".

Prof. Dr. Dang Kim Chi, a member of Natural and Environmental Protection Association in Vietnam, said: "The Vietnam Natural and Environmental Protection Association are working closely with our Korean partners. Activities like this will help us to gain experience for future environment protection projects".

International co-operation on environmental issues in Vietnam now comes in two forms. First is top-down, which means partner countries will help Vietnam develop policies and projects. Second is bottom down in which NGOs will implement community based initiatives to protect the environment.
