VTV.vn - The Central region of Vietnam has suffered from a prolonged drought since the beginning of this year. Currently, water reserves in reservoirs that power local hydroelectric power plants are practically exhausted.

Due to the water shortage, tens of thousands of hectares of crops will be ruined. Output of hydroelectric plants in the Central and Highland regions has been 20% lower than the same period last year.

The Central provinces are home to tens of hydropower plants, and the water shortage has led to recent price hikes with electricity at a premium.

The Vietnam Electricity Group has been asked to take alternative measures to cope with the drought and ensure stable power supplies for everday life and production
