2 dead, 2 missing as ship sinks off Ho Chi Minh City

VTV.vn - Two have been found dead and another two remain missing after a Vietnamese cargo vessel, Hoang Phuc 18, sank off Ho Chi Minh City on Friday night.

Passing ships rescued 12 crew members, while another was brought to safety by rescuers, following painstaking search efforts the following day.

Rescuers retrieved the bodies of the two victims, Nguyen Van Sa and Nguyen Van Quang this morning. The whereabouts of the other two fishermen are still unknown.

According to preliminary information, the boat departed around 5:00 pm on Thursday from the southern province of Dong Nai.

The ship capsized and went down in the Soai Rap River, which flows through Ho Chi Minh City’s Can Gio district and Tien Giang province. The ship was carrying 17 people and 5 hundred metric tons of cargo.
