On November 6, he met with Vietnamese Communist Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung.
Regarding the East Sea, the two sides underlined the importance of international commitments such as the DOC, COC and the UNCLOS which emphasise the legal measures to build trust and avoid misunderstanding and distrust in the region. The East Sea is an issue of vital importance in international relations and span wider than the region./.
Earlier the same day, Japanese Minister of Defence Nakatani Gen was received by Vietnamese Minister of National Defence Phung Quang Thanh.
Both sides agree to further enhance high level visits, improve the effectiveness of dialogue and consultation mechanisms. This will help realise the Memorandum of Understanding on defence co-operation, and ensure freedom and safety of navigation and aviation.
The two sides also agreed to continue active co-operation in regional security issues as well as close co-ordination within international organisations and forums especially the ADMM Plus.
