VTV.vn - Foreign Ministry spokesman Le Hai Binh told a press conference in Hanoi on January 28 that Vietnam opposed the visit by Taiwanese leader Ma Ying-jeou to Ba Binh Island in the Truong Sa Archipelago.

Ma’s visit, regardless of the concerns of Vietnam and the international community, was a serious violation of Vietnamese sovereignty and ran counter to Taiwan’s recent announcement that it wanted to contribute to the preservation of peace and stability in the East Sea, Binh said.

Vietnam resolutely opposes the visit and has asked Taiwan to stop violating Vietnam’s sovereignty and not to repeat similar acts which could raise tensions in the East Sea, the official said.
