Party Congress attracts international media

VTV.vn - The 12th National Party Congress has also received wide coverage by the international media. Over 120 foreign reporters came to Hanoi to cover the event.

French journalist Dominique Vidal of L’Humanite first came to Vietnam in 1978. Over the past 40 years, she has kept track of Vietnamese affairs, especially during the Doi moi, renovation period. Vietnam’s achievements after 30 years of Doi Moi are an angle for her during this event.

"After the war, Vietnam struggled a lot and lacked many things. However, Vietnam has experienced rapid fast and the world can see that. Many nations, especially those in Africa, could learn from Vietnam’s experience", Dominique Vidal, Journalist of L’Humanite, France, said.

To Jonathan Head, BBC correspondent in Southeast Asia, public opinion and the Party Congress are among his main focuses.

"I’ve been asking all kinds of people I met here, what do they think about the party congress, does politics mean anything to them, are they excited about what happening to get some sense of how ordinary people and politics connect. There’s no question that at the moment, people in Vietnam generally feel that things have gone well here for the last 10 years", Jonathan Head, Reporter of British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), said.

Nearly 5,500 results popped up when googling “Vietnam 12th national Party Congress in news category. Many of which focused on the issue on the election of party officials and the party’s future strategies. The event attracted international reporters from well-known news agencies worldwide such as Al Jazeera from Qatar, the UK’s Daily Telegraph, and China’s CCTV.

"Many international reporters registered to attend the 12th national party congress at the beginning of last year.We saw this as our main task in 2016 so we tried our best to support and co-operate with the foreign reporters, helping them ensure their information is accurate and objective", Dinh Hoang Linh, Vice Director of Foreign Press Centre, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said.

The foreign press centre representative said this is was one of the most attractive events the country has yet hosted in terms of foreign press interest. Thanks to this greater foreign news coverage, people throughout the world are likely to have a greater understanding of Vietnam’s development in the coming period.
