This is Xi's first visit to Vietnam as China's head of state and top leader of the Communist Party of China. On the same day, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and General Secretary and Chinese President Xi Jinping held talks and witnessed the signing of a number of agreements.
President Xi Jinping said China was not keen on maintaining a trade surplus with Vietnam. China is willing to promote balanced bilateral trade and was happy to promote sustainability.
After the talks, the two witnessed the signings of several agreements including an agreement on party training for the 2016-2020 period, an agreement on ships travelling in the Bắc Luân region and the agreement on promoting tourism at the Ban Gioc waterfall.
