The event was co-hosted by the Institute of Marine Engineering Science, Korean People’s Vietnam Friendship Association, Korea's Marine Law Association, and Youngsan University's Marine Law Research Centre.
The conference was divided into two sessions. Presentations focused on the prospects of using peaceful means to resolve disputes in the East Sea and the importance of applying international law for peace and security in the area.
Korean experts pointed out that up to 30% of Korea’s exports and 90% of fuel imports pass through this area. Korea's stable economic growth depends on the stability of the East Sea.
The event also highlighted the focal importance of ASEAN in ensuring regional security and the role of the Japan and the US in sailing in the East Sea. The participants emphasised the historical, scientific and legal grounds of Vietnam's sovereignty over the East Sea demonstrated by Vietnamese and international experts.
