The report stated that aircraft CASA 212 crashed 2.7 nautical miles west of the border, 15 nautical miles south east of Bach Long Vi Island. Wreckage from the plane including tail, propeller, engine, mechanical parts along with personal belongings were recovered. Bodies were also found at the site. Officials confirmed that they were deceased crew members.
The wreckage of the SU30 MK2 jet fighter and the body of Sr. Lt. Col. Tran Quang Khai were also found 25 nautical miles off the coast of Nghe An Province. The search is continuing to find the plane’s black box. The other pilot, Maj. Nguyen Huu Cuong is now recovering well.
The Ministry of Defence will continue search efforts to recover the bodies of the other crew of the CASA212. The army’s doctors and technicians are now working hard to identify the bodies and collect data to find the causes of the crashes.
