HÀ NỘI — Travellers who have been through Iran or Italy have been asked to fill in medical declaration forms and undergo health check-ups at all border gates across Việt Nam.

Agencies have been asked to arrange interpreters to help them.

The move is part of efforts to prevent the SARS-CoV-2 virus that is spreading worldwide, with Iran and Italy reporting large numbers of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) caused by the virus.

On Sunday, Italy reported more than 1,000 cases of COVID-19 and 29 deaths, the most in Europe, while Iran’s death toll climbed to 43 among nearly 600 cases.

The Vietnamese Ministry of Health on Saturday is urging localities nationwide to push ahead with quarantine efforts for people arriving from countries hit by COVID-19, given the high risk of new cases.

People coming from or traveling through COVID-19-hit areas in Italy, Iran, China and the Republic of Korea, and those who have had close contact with people suffering from a fever, cough and shortness of breath, must be put under quarantine.

Others who have visited these countries recently must self-isolate following the ministry’s regulations.

Ten Vietnamese crew members on a ship returning from Hong Kong were in a stable condition and returned home after 14 days of quarantine, the military steering committee in the central province of Quảng Bình said on Sunday.

On February 14, the committee received ten people from Panama.

It loaded cargo at a Japanese port on January 28, docked at Hong Kong Port on February 09 and headed to Hòn La Port, Quảng Bình Province on Sunday.

So far, Việt Nam has confirmed 16 SARS-Cov-2 patients, all of whom have fully recovered. The country has recorded no new cases since February 13. — VNS
