Illegal organ trade ring busted in Hà Nội

HÀ NỘI – Hà Nội’s Police Department of Criminal Investigation of Social Order has issued a decision to prosecute a criminal case regarding illegal organ trading.

Police have detained Trương Minh Ngọc, 32, from Phú Thọ Province and Trần Tuấn Anh, 23, from Hà Nội.

According to police, Dương Văn Minh, 28, suffered from kidney failure in June this year and needed to find a donor, and contacted Ngọc through a social network.

Ngọc said he could find a kidney for him within two weeks for VNĐ550 million (US$23,900) and asked him to pay a deposit of VNĐ290 million for kidney transplant surgery.

After receiving the money, Ngọc and Anh cut off contact with him.

Under further investigation, police also discovered two other suspects who were part of the scam.

They confessed they had conned about 40 people. — VNS
