QUẢNG TRỊ — Twenty-six sets of remains of Vietnamese soldiers and expert volunteers who passed away in Laos during wartime were on Wednesday buried with full honours in the central province of Quảng Trị.
Their remains were laid to rest at the Road 9 National Martyrs’ Cemetery in Đông Hà City.
It was the 33rd time Quảng Trị Province has received remains of Vietnamese soldiers and volunteers who died in Laos.
Speaking at the ceremony, deputy chairman of the Quảng Trị People’s Committee Hoàng Nam said: “Today, all of you returned to your homeland with comrades and people. We would like to express our respect and gratitude to you all.”
The volunteers did sacrificed their bloods and bones to fight for the Laos people and the Việt Nam Fatherland, he said.
Whether the soldiers were identified or not, their noble sacrifices are and will forever be recognised by the nation, said Nam.
Authorities of the central province of Thừa Thiên-Huế on Tuesday held a memorial service for remains of 18 Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who laid down their lives in Laos during wartime.
The remains were repatriated by repatriation team 192 of the Thừa Thiên-Huế Military Command in seven months during the 2018-19 dry season in Salavan and Sekong provinces in Laos. — VNS
