VTV.vn - Vietnamese State President Truong Tan Sang and leaders of 192 other member countries and international organizations attended the United Nations General Assembly for Sustainable Development in New York on Friday.

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development was approved by representatives of the UN’s 193 member countries. It is expected to be a universal, integrated, and transformative vision for a better world. The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development is composed of 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to wipe out poverty, fight inequality, and tackle climate change over the next 15 years. The Goals aim to build on the work of the 8 Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) which were applied from September 2000 to 2015.

Leaders of member countries and international organisations praised the newly-approved sustainable goals.

While the World Bank’s leader said that it needs to transform to better support economies around the world, Director General of the International Monetary Fund called on all the member countries to work together to achieve the Goals.

The historic 8 Millennium Development Goals helped improved millions of lives around the world. And future policies are believed to do much more.
