The pageant, the first of its kind, attracted the participation of 90 Vietnamese women living in Austria, Poland, Bulgaria, Germany, Holland, Hungary, Norway, Slovakia and the Czech Republic.
Organisers also hoped the event will direct the attention of young Vietnamese living abroad to the history and value of the traditional costume.
First prizes of the pageant were granted to Dang Thi Bich Lan from Germany in the age group of over 51, and Tran Hoang Mai Anh from Poland in the age group of 35-50. Along with the first prizes, the organising board also announced three second and four third prizes, and several extra prizes. Lucas Kaucky, former Deputy Foreign Minister of the Czech Republic and head of the Prague Council for Ethnic Minorities, said he was impressed by the event.
The pageant demonstrated the close relationship between Czech and Vietnamese peoples through the popularisation of Vietnam’s culture, including its traditional costume. The second pageant will be organised in Dresden, Germany, in 2020.
