On May 22, the Program Department of Vietnam Television organized an in-depth training session on copyright protection and intellectual property for all affiliated units of the broadcaster. The session aimed to enhance awareness of, and compliance with the Intellectual Property Law in television production. The session was attended by Mr. Nguyen Dang Hoc, Director of the Program Department at Vietnam Television; Mr. Vu Tieu Ngoc, Deputy Director of the Program Department; and lawyer Phan Vu Tuan - Standing Vice Chairman and Secretary General of the Ho Chi Minh City Intellectual Property Association, founder and managing partner of Phan Law Vietnam; along with a large number of reporters, editors and technical staff from content production units across VTV.
Many reporters, editors, and technicians from VTV join the training session.
According to Mr. Nguyen Dang Hoc, VTV management has been concerned with copyright management and protection, issuing specific directives and action plans. Since the beginning of 2026, VTV has issued Directive No. 01 and Plan No. 05 to coordinate solutions to protect VTV’s content assets. Currently, the Program Department is finalizing Directive No. 02, which will strengthen copyright management measures, for submission to the Director General for approval. . Mr. Hoc hoped the session will help VTV staff gain a deeper understanding of copyright and intellectual property issues, thereby facilitating future television production activities.
Raising self-protection awareness and lessons on privacy and copyright
From a legal perspective, lawyer Phan Vu Tuan shared that journalistic works are a highly specialized form of creation. Practitioners must overcome numerous barriers, especially those related to privacy rights and copyright, before completing a work. Once finished, journalistic works are fully protected by law and carry significant copyright value.

Drawing on his experience handling numerous legal disputes, lawyer Phan Vu Tuan noted that one major weakness among many Vietnamese creators today is a lack of awareness about how to protect their intellectual property assets, leaving them vulnerable to infringement or unfavorable contracts.
The Program Department urged units to establish proper copyright documentation, describing it as the “key” to the long-term exploitation of works across multiple platforms.
One of the key practical tasks highlighted during the training session was ensuring copyright protection for the FIFA World Cup 2026™ finals, the world’s biggest football tournament, which begins in less than three weeks . This task is considered a major, highly complex challenge that requires close coordination and legal understanding among all relevant units. To help resolve these concerns, experts from Phan Law Vietnam directly participated in discussions and analyzed real-life cases.

During the event, delegates also listened to presentations by representatives of the Program Department on the application of intellectual property law to television operations. Reporters and editors raised many practical questions based on their routine professional operations, and received direct guidance from lawyers on establishing safe, legally compliant copyright records.
The organizers held this large-scale training session to address the practical challenges faced by numerous VTV units. Vietnam Television plans to continue holding such professional forums to develop a safe, standardized, and professional production process in preparation for major future content campaigns. The immediate priority is World Cup copyright protection.
