Voice-to-text software wins first prize at Vietnam Talent Awards 2019

VTV.vn -A speech to text software application with accuracy of up to 93.6% was among the top winners announced at an award ceremony for the Vietnamese Talent Awards 2019 in Hanoi on the evening of November 15.

The Vietnamese Talent Awards, first held in 2005, is co-organised by the Dan Tri (Intellectual) Newspaper and the Vietnam Post and Telecommunications Group (VNPT).

The speech to text software – namely Origin-STT – won top prize in the IT category for its capability to recognise different Vietnamese accents and about 7,000 Vietnamese words so that users no longer have to transcribe audio files manually.

The two products that won the IT category’s second prize are a security solution for surveillance cameras designed by the Institute of Information Technology and Communications at the Hanoi University of Science and Technology; and GoStudio, designed by GoStream in the field of TV broadcasting.

In the Environment Awards, the first prize went to Chairwoman of the Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment, Prof., Dr. Dang Kim Chi, for her study on the environment in Vietnam’s handicraft villages.

Regarding the Medicine Awards, the first prize belongs to two researches, on laparoscopic surgery in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases by the E Hospital’s Cardiovascular Centre- under the Ministry of Health; and on advances in laparoscopic surgery to abdominal diseases by Professor Tran Binh Giang from Vietnam-Germany Friendship Hospital.

The first prize in the Science and Technology Awards was granted to Dr. Tran Huu Ly from the Ministry of Defence’s Military Institute of Mechanical Engineering for his project on transforming four-wheeled armoured vehicles into ambulances for peace-keeping duties.

In addition, the organisers also granted the Self-Learning Awards to two projects to encourage individuals who have overcome difficulties to contribute to their community. The winners in this category are Do Chi Le’s treatment of waste into goods in the northern province of Thai Binh’s Quynh Coi Town; and Ha Kim Toi's manufacturing of a fresh cassava scraping machine in Residential Area 8, Vo Lao Commune, Thanh Ba District, Phu Tho Province.

At the 2019 edition, the overall winner receive a cash prize of VND200 million (US$8,600) while the second and third prizes are VND100 million and VND50 million, respectively.

Over the past 15 years, from an annual IT awards, the Vietnamese Talent Awards have been expanded to other fields and attracted the participation of many entries from both at home and abroad.
