During the first plenum of APEC Economic leaders' meeting on challenges to investment and trade liberalisation, leaders agreed that it is necessary to reinforce multilateral trade and trade liberalisation, support for SMEs and global supply chains. At the second plenary session, State President Tran Dai Quang presented five proposals to ensure food security, climate change response and access to water resources. The Vietnamese leader highlighted the APEC Year 2017 / on Creating New Dynamism, Fostering a Shared Future, and said Vietnam's hosting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation Year in 2017 / would be the centre of the country's foreign affairs activities, demonstrating the country's desire to contribute to APEC and regional development.
