VTV.vn - Vietnamese Embassy in Singapore hosted a ‘chung’ cake making contest, attracting the enthusiastic participation of the Overseas Vietnamese (OV) community and international friends who are living in the country.

The event was among a series of activities co-organised by the embassy, the Liaison Committee of the Vietnamese Community in Singapore and the Vietnamese Students’ Association in Singapore to celebrate Lunar New Year (Tet) 2022.

It also aimed preserve and promote Vietnamese culture and consolidate solidarity among OVs in the host country.

The contest featured 11 teams with each comprising two members in different age and social backgrounds.

Bong Liong Wei, a contestant from Malaysia, said that she was impressed with the contest, at which she could feel the warm welcome from everyone.

When she heard about the contest from her friend, she decided to join it not only to learn about ‘chung’ cake making but also to explore Vietnamese culture.

Meanwhile, Adam Winne, an Irish entrant with a Vietnamese wife, shared that he was happy to take part in the contest. “This is a wonderful experience,” he said, adding that he loves eating ‘chung’ cake and always wanted to try his hands at making the cake, and the contest provided a good opportunity for him to do it.

The teams also joined the embassy staff and organising board’s members to make 100 ‘chung’ cakes and prepare 100 gifts to present Vietnamese students who are studying in Singapore.

Pham Vu Gia Linh, one of the students, said she was happy to receive the gift, which brought her the warmth and “scent” of Tet while living far from homeland.
