The first event was held in the home country after being held overseas for eight years. With the theme " Challenge, Passion, Dream", the first night announced awards in categories such as production and new and potential artists in 2018. The event attracted the participation of famous names in the South Korean entertainment industry and in Asia. The representative of Vietnam, artist Khuong Hoan My, aka Orange, was named "Best New Asian Artist". She also gave a performance on the MAMA stage with the song "Dear Stranger". MAMA will continue its series of award events on December 12th in Japan and December 14th in Hong Kong, China.
