In a rematch of the 2019 final, Vietnam maintained their dominance over Indonesia as a second-half blitz saw them register an emphatic win, with Nguyen Tien Linh, Do Hung Dung and Le Van Do getting on the scoresheet.
“I think the opening game is always difficult. What’s important is the players tried their best and attained good results. I want to thank the fans for their constant support. The whole team will continue to push hard for the best results in the remaining games of Group A,” Park told reporters after the match.

Vietnam faced many difficulties in the first half but turned on the power in the second with a convincing display. Explaining such change, the Republic of Korea tactician said: “After 60 minutes, the fitness of the Indonesian players gradually declined. We made some tactical and position changes and therefore had a successful match.”
However, with the first half ending up goalless, Park frankly acknowledged the shortcomings of Vietnam U23. “In fact, some of my players lack competition experience. In this match, I still feel that there are personal mistakes somewhere. The coaching staff will work to improve this.”
As scheduled, Vietnam will next face the Philippines, who currently lead Group A following a commanding 4-0 win over Timor Leste. The game is due to take place at Viet Tri Stadium in Phu Tho Province at 7 pm on May 8.
