The 10 millionth foreign visitor to Vietnam is a British tourist who landed at Phu Quoc International Airport on Vietnam Airlines flight VN1815. His arrival marked the first time Vietnam has received 10 million foreign tourists a year, since the establishment of its tourism 56 years ago. The record also means an increase of 2 million visitors compared with last year.
Vietnam's tourism sets the target of receiving 18-20 million international arrivals by 2020 for a turnover of 30-35 billion dollars. Tourism is expected to serve as an impetus of the country's economy.
Also on Sunday in Phu Quoc, the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism hosted the closing ceremony of the national tourism year 2016 with focus on attracting visitors to Phu Quoc and the Mekong Delta. National tourism year 2017 region will be held in Lao Cai and other parts of the northwest mountainous region in a bid to promote tourism in this area.
