VTV.vn - An incident in which Vietnamese workers were mistreated by a Chinese employer in Khenchela city, Algeria on September 16 raised issues about how well Vietnamese workers are being treated abroad.

Nguyen Khac Tai and Nguyen Van Huy are family members of the Vietnamese workers working in Khenchela, Algeria. Due to communication difficulties, they aren’t able to get regular updates from their kin. They are really concerned about the current conditions their relatives are working in.

Tai’s and Huy’s family members are among 57 workers who are working for the Dongyi Jiangsu Company in Khenchela. On September 16, a group of Vietnamese workers fought with a group of Chinese workers. Two Vietnamese were injured while another seven were mistreated by their employer.

According to the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ General Consular Department, seven Vietnamese workers have agreed with their new workload and already moved to another construction area, another 23 agreed with the new workload but aren’t keen to relocate, while the remainder just want to return to Vietnam. Funds will cover the expenses for workers who want to return to Vietnam.
