his visa-free zone is the gateway through which China and other neighbouring countries, including Vietnam could export a trickle of goods to Kazakhstan. The city is considered the main point of entry to the world’s largest customs union, the EU and other markets.
Kazakhstan has recently begun promoting the development of its “Oriental Doors” free economic zone in Khorgos. The economic zone spans over 6 thousand hectares in Almaty Province in the joint border area between Kazakhstan and China.
Khorgos is located at the intersection of China and Southeast Asia to countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), Europe and the Persian Gulf.
"The ports and industrial zones will contribute to freight forwarding and logistics services in the region. The local authorities will give preferential conditions and tax incentives to foreign investors. Goods produced here can be exported to both Europe and Southeast Asia", said Batalov Amanduc, Governor of the Almaty Region.
These are the prerequisites for the development of multimodal transports and large-scale industrial production, helping it become a part of the world's distributor channels.
And according to the Governor of Almaty Province, thanks to this system, goods produced in the Southeast Asia, including Vietnam will be transported by sea to China’s port city of Lianyungang before going on to Khorgos to enter CIS countries and Europe, opening up more chances for Vietnamese goods.
