Vietnam steps up measures to wipe out Covid-19

VTV.vn - Covid-19 epidemic response activities continue to be strengthened across the country as Vietnam has confirmed 34 cases of the deadly coronavirus.

The Health Ministry (MoH) announced three more new infection cases (two Vietnamese and one British nationalities) in the country on Tuesday afternoon (March 10), raising the total number of positive cases to 34 so far. Among them, 16 have recovered and were released, while the remaining 18 patients are being provided with isolated treatment at medical establishments.

On Tuesday afternoon, Politburo member and Minister of Public Security General To Lam chaired a teleconference on the prevention and control of Covid-19 in the public security (police) force. Praising the efforts by the force in the epidemic fight, Minister To Lam proposed that they make the best use of the favourable conditions to successfully control Covid-19.

The same day, the army’s Covid-19 Steering Committee gathered in Hanoi the same day to discuss their disease prevention and control work in the military units.

The same day, more cases related to the newly confirmed Covid-19 patients in Vietnam tested negative for SARS-CoV-2. The Department of Health of Quang Binh Province said that the tests for a British cave expert, a translator and an American tourist were all negative for the virus. The cave specialist flew with the 17th patient on March 2.

Thua Thien - Hue Province’s Covid-19 Steering Committee said that the 30th Covid-19 patient is in stable health and five others who had close contact with this case have tested negative for SARS-CoV-2.

Da Nang City’s Centre for Disease Control has announced the negative test results for 40 people who were in close contact or on the same flight with two British tourists infected with Covid-19. Currently, they are continuing to be monitored and isolated for 14 days in accordance with regulations of the MoH.

On Tuesday evening, Hai Phong City’s Department of Health said that all seven cases of high risk of Covid-19 infection in isolation in the northern port city had negative test results. Earlier, they had contact with the 30th Covid-19 patient (a British national, who is currently being treated in Hue), while she was traveling to Hai Phong’s Cat Ba Island on February 25 and 26. Up until now, Hai Phong has not yet recorded any positive case. All 103 high-risk cases in Hai Phong had negative test results.

The Department of Health of Can Tho City has granted confirmations for three cases who completed their 14-day quarantine. Currently, the Military School of Can Tho has isolated 331 people and their health is stable.

On March 10, the national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines said that, it has decided to conduct disinfection for all aircraft when flying to Vietnam. The disinfection is performed immediately after the aircraft landing, while it will perform body temperature measurements for all passengers departing from Europe before boarding and equipped them with masks during the flight.

The Hanoi People's Committee has decided to supplement funding worth over VND3.5 billion for Covid-19 screening, applied on concentrated isolated cases before handing over them to the localities for local isolation.

Dairy producer TH Group has presented one million glasses of milk to doctors, officials and people in Covid-19 concentrated quarantine centres nationwide. The gift was handed over to Truong Thi Ngoc Anh, Vice President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee, at a ceremony in Hanoi on March 10.

The same day, the Covid-19 National Steering Committee issued a request to the People's Committees of provinces and cities to enhance screening and isolation of Covid-19 cases at medical examination and treatment facilities. The screening to detect suspected patients is to be done immediately upon their arrival at the facilities. On the same day, the Medical Services Administration (under the MoH) checked the reception, screening and isolation of patients to prevent and control Covid-19 at a number of private hospitals in Hanoi.
