To this end, the Vietnam Fisheries Association and the Directorate of Fisheries organised a workshop in Bac Lieu Province this morning to assess challenges and discuss solutions to promote the sustainable development of the sector. At the workshop, 600 participants discussed clean shrimp farming models and new production processes in order to reduce costs, increase productivity and promote environmentally friendly products. Such measures are put forward amid challenges for the sector such as stricter export criteria into demanding markets such as the US and Australia, unfavourable weather, environmental pollution and the over-use of antibiotics. Furthermore, diversification of products in terms of processed shrimp is also of special interest to enterprises. According to the Directorate of Fisheries, these are sustainable solutions for Vietnamese shrimp to respond to the current market challenges.
