VTV.vn - Vietnam continued to see a sharp drop in the number of international tourists.

The beautiful landscapes of New Zealand, used as the scenic locations in blockbuster films such as The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, captivated movie fans around the world. As a result, the number of international visitors to New Zealand rose by 700,000 arrivals from 2000 to 2006. 6% of international visitors said that they decided to visit New Zealand after seeing the films. The Vietnam National Administration of Tourism saw this as an effective way to promote Vietnamese tourism.

"We are working with the Vietnam Cinema Department on film projects to use scenic locations in Vietnam. We are in the negotiation process and there are many things to discuss. If international blockbuster films use locations in Vietnam, our tourism will grow rapidly." - Vu Quoc Tri, Programme director, Vietnam National Administration of Tourism.

The Vietnam National Administration of Tourism is aiming to link with international tourism agencies in order to increase the number of foreign visitors to Vietnam.

"We are trying to build tourism packages that will connect tourism sites with neighbouring countries such as Thailand and Cambodia." - Le Tuan Anh, Deputy Head, Marketing Department, Vietnam National Administration of Tourism.

In addition, the fact that Vietnam recently granted visa exemptions for tourists from 5 Western European countries has also attracted more international visitors.

"After the decline of Russian and Chinese visitors to Vietnam, tourism here has recently shown some signs of recovery. The amount of visitors from potential markets has begun to grow again." - Nguyen Van Tuan, Director General, Vietnam National Administration of Tourism.

In late 2014, the Prime Minister issued resolution 92 on measures to bolster Vietnam’s tourism. It was hoped that the resolution would lay a foundation for the industry to make a breakthrough in the time ahead.
