Karla is a young German visitor to Vietnam. Today, she has attended a fun sculpture workshop at the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum. Each participant was given a piece of clay to create anything related to single-word themes. The workshop-goers were engaged and their creativity engaged, with interesting works of art created in a fun environment.
When it comes to museums in Vietnam, many people often think of glass cases displaying untouchable artefacts. However, as society develops, museum’s need to be more than just display places for old objects. They need to be able to engage their visitors through more interactive experiences. The Vietnam Museum of Ethnology is one museum that has a more modern approach to its exhibitions and displays.
"On occasions such as the Lunar New Year, the International Children’s Day, or Mid-autumn festival, our museum often organises activities in which we invited artists and artisans from around the country to perform and demonstrate at out museum. This approach helps create a bridge between the museum and visitors, making the people, the cultural subjects themselves, introduce their cultures directly to the visitors", said Vo Quang Trong, Director ofVietnam Museum of Ethnology.
In 2014, the Vietnam Museum of Ethnology was ranked 4th among the 25 most attractive museums in Asia by travel review website Trip Advisor. However, many other Vietnamese museums didn’t do so well. The main reasons were the lack of innovative exhibits and boring approach to displays and lack of interaction.
