Vietnam reports additional 14,835 COVID-19 cases

VTV.vn - Vietnam recorded 14,835 new COVID-19 infections, including 13 imported cases, in the past 24 hours to 16:00 on January 1, said the Ministry of Health.

The capital city of Hanoi logged the highest number of infections, with 1,748. It was followed by Vinh Long province with 1,223 cases and Tay Ninh province, with 947 infections.

The new infections brought the country’s total caseload to 1,746,092, including 20 Omicron variant cases.

As many as 2,990 patients were declared to be from coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 on the day, raising the total of recoveries to 1,358,276.

Meanwhile, the death toll rose to 32,610 after 216 fatalities were reported on the first day of 2022.

More than 152.2 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines had been administered, including 77.6 million first shots, 68.8 million second jabs and 5.7 third injections.
