Vietnam is ready to realise its international commitments on natural disaster risk reduction and mitigation according to Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung in a meeting in Hanoi on Tuesday with Secretary-General of the World Meteorology Organisation Petteri Taalas. The Deputy Prime Minister said Vietnam was among countries most affected by climate change. He asked the WMO to support Vietnam in human resource development, capacity building in forecasting, warnings, and surveillance and enhancing international co-operation in hydro-meteorology, climate change, and other related areas. WMO Secretary-General Taalas praised the Vietnamese government's investment in hydro-meteorology, human resource development, and modern weather monitoring stations. He also asked Vietnam complete a legal framework to effectively mobilise regional resources in disaster mitigation and prevention.
