VTV.vn - The National Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Prevention discussed preparations with the agencies in the run-up to the storm at conference held on Monday.

According to the National Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting, Typhoon Nida is heading for Macao and Hong Kong, China or the south of the Chinese province of Guangdong. Within the next 24 hour, the storm will be centered at about 17 N latitude and 110 E longitude, packing gale force 10-11 winds. The committee has requested the Border Guard High Command and other agencies to instruct ships at sea to leave or avoid entering the danger zone.

Following the experience of Typhoon Mirinae, crews are being asked to disembark from vessels and ensure boats are properly anchored. In the next 3 days, Typhoon Nida is predicted to cause widespread rainfall in the northern region of Vietnam. Localities are requested to lower water levels at reservoirs, and make plans to cope with rain, floods and landslides and prevent fatal accident at underground storage tanks. The committee urged the National Centre of Forecasting to closely follow the development of the typhoon in order to provide ample time for mitigation measures to be taken to minimise damage.
