The cyber-attacks on the airport and airline information systems were described as ‘very serious’. Over 100 domestic flights were delayed and Vietnam Airlines’ data of about 400 thousand customers were illegally accessed by hackers. Right after the incident, the State Bank of Vietnam warned credit institutions to increase their vigilance against hackers. Several banks have temporarily stopped online payment function on Vietnam Airlines’ website and promotional campaigns connected with the airline.
Experts recommend that businesses and organisations enhance cyber security facilities and software as well as raise staff awareness of the importance of cyber security.
Coping with hackers is a common issue for every country. Hackers often make use of weaknesses in Word, Excel or Powerpoint files to spread spyware. In 2015, tens of thousands of cyber-attacks happened all over the world. 40% of websites have their weaknesses and about 300 websites with the .vn domain are attacked daily.
