The inauguration ceremony saw the presence of Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung, Government officials, leaders of ministries and sectors from the two countries as well as around 8,000 locals living in the shared border area.
The market was constructed in January 2018 on an area of nearly 20,000 square meters at Thary Tbaung Khmum special economic zone in Memot district, Tbong Khmum province, Cambodia. It is opposite to Vietnam’s Chang Riec border gate in Tan Bien district, Tay Ninh province.
The project has seen a total investment of nearly VND45 billion (US$1.94 million) as part of the Vietnamese Government’s non-refundable aid package to Cambodia.
In his address, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen expressed his deep gratitude towards the Vietnamese Government and people for funding the project, which will benefit the people in the two countries, particularly those living in the shared border areas.
He affirmed that the inauguration of the market will facilitate exchange of goods and border trade activities between the two countries, contributing to realising the target of US$5 billion in bilateral trade.
For his part, Vietnamese Deputy PM Trinh Dinh Dung stressed that the project is of huge significance in the bilateral economic, trade and investment relations. He expressed his belief that with its favourable location and strong support from the two Governments and peoples, Da market will become a key trade location which can help to reduce poverty and improve the standard of living for people in the shared border areas.
The inauguration of the market contributed to deepening the traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia, for mutual interests of peoples in the two countries, he asserted.
