A virtual leader-level meeting of the Major Economies Forum on Energy and Climate, hosted by US President Joe Biden, took place on Friday.

Vietnamese Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Trần Hồng Hà was authorised by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh to attend the event.

Participants presented ways to implement COP26 commitments, in which countries demonstrate a strong transformation in energy, transport, and agriculture, with a focus on green technology application, carbon emission reduction, and maximizing renewable energy such as wind power and solar power.

The US pledged to eliminate emissions from personal vehicles by 2030. Australia aims to cut carbon emissions by 43% and targets having net zero emissions by 2050. Egypt, Canada, and South Korea are ready for a transition to a green economy.

Vietnam, meanwhile, will increase its proportion of renewable energy to at least 15.5% by 2030 and at least 38.3% by 2045 and develop a roadmap to achieve net zero emissions by 2050.
