* Marseille have signed Argentina defender Leonardo Balerdi from Borussia Dortmund, both clubs announced on Tuesday (Jul 21). In a statement, the clubs said Marseille had signed the 21-year-old on a one-season loan deal with an option to buy.

* Paraguayan football resumed on Tuesday after a four-month coronavirus shutdown with Cerro Porteno beating league leaders Libertad 2-1 and River Plate drawing 1-1 with Nacional.

* MotoGP champion Marc Marquez could be back in action next month after his Repsol Honda team reported successful surgery to his right arm on Tuesday (Jul 20). Marquez suffered the injury when he crashed four laps from the end of the season-opening Spanish Grand Prix in Jerez on Sunday.

* Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale is not leaving the club even though he has not been featuring regularly for the La Liga champions in recent weeks, according to his agent Jonathan Barnett.

* Tottenham Hotspur's versatile England international Eric Dier has signed a new deal that will keep him at the north London side until 2024, the Premier League club said on Tuesday. Dier, who was due to be out of contract next summer, has made 239 appearances for the club, scoring 11 times.

* The Citi Open in Washington, which was scheduled to restart the men's ATP Tour after the COVID-19 shutdown, has been cancelled for 2020, organisers announced on Tuesday. The tournament was set to begin on Aug. 14 and serve as a build-up for the US Open but the organisers said concerns about travel restrictions and recent trends in the coronavirus outbreak had led to the decision to scrap the event.

* Crystal Palace have signed teenage defender Nathan Ferguson on a three-year deal after his contract with Championship side West Bromwich Albion expired, the Premier League club said on Tuesday. The 19-year-old West Brom academy graduate made his senior debut at the Hawthorns this season, playing 21 league games before a knee injury cut short his campaign.
