VTV.vn - On May 3rd 1971, nearly 500,000 people participated in a demonstration to protest against Vietnam War in Washington DC.

45 years ago, the United States saw the largest protests against the country’s war in Vietnam. 45 years later, the young protesters of those days have gathered together in Washington DC to remember those times. In their meeting, they also shared their feelings of determination to help Vietnam heal the wounds of war. More in the following report

On May 3rd 1971, nearly 500,000 people participated in a demonstration to protest against Vietnam War in Washington DC.

The people blocked the roads to the city centre, and punctured car tyres which made it impossible for the government agencies to operate.

“If the government won't stop the war, we'll stop the government,” was their slogan.

Over 12,000 people were arrested at the demonstration. A stadium was turned into a temporary cell. That was one of the largest demonstrations in the history of the US.

45 years after the demonstration, several people participating in that demonstration gathered together in Washington DC. And memories of those dramatic times returned to them.

But they didn’t just talk about the past at the reunion, many of those present were keen to discuss future plans. They believe that while the war in Vietnam is long over, its damage still remains.

Those who participated in the protests against the war in Vietnam also gathered together to help support Vietnam in repairing the damage after the war. In the near future, they plan to provide treatment for 40 Agent Orange victims before expanding the campaign.
