The European Literature Days is joined by 8 European countries, naming Denmark, Germany, France, Sweden, England, Italy, Belgium and Spain with more than 25 literature activities. This event lasts from 5th – 10th May (Hanoi) and 8th - 12th May (Ho Chi Minh City)
This year marks 400th anniversary of the death of English playwright Shakespeare and Spanish novelist Miguel de Cervantes. According to the Organizing Committee, representatives from England and Spain will take part in the event to honor 2 great artists. England will hold 3 consecutive events including conference, talk – show and seminar revolving around Shakespeare’s famous works. Meanwhile, Spain will organize a discussion to recognize Miguel de Cervantes and his well – known novel The Ingenious Gentleman Don Quixote of La Mancha.
Apart from Little Nicholas (Le petit Nicolas), Little Prince (Le Petit Prince), Pippi Longstocking (Swedish Pippi Långstrump), European Literature Days also introduce Vietnamese readers some recent works, naming Wisdom and Destiny (1898) by Maurice Maeterlinck, Pas Pleurer by Lydie Salvayre, War Memoirs by Charles De Gaulle, The Taste of Apple Seeds by Katharina Hagena, The Castle by Franz Kafka.
European Literature Days is an annual event held by The European Union National Institutes for Culture (EUNIC), Association of Culture Institutes and European Embassies on the purpose of honoring and sharing the essence of European literature to Vietnamese readers.
